Machine translation - be careful?

Despite their many advantages, automated tools (including AI) may not always deliver the most accurate or contextually appropriate translations.

A machine translation can struggle with idiomatic expressions, cultural nuances and complex sentence structures, which can lead to mistranslations or awkward phrasing.

In the worst case, the translation could even come across as funny. For example: I visited a German-speaking restaurant that had translated "wild salmon" as "savage salmon" ("bissiger Lachs"). A small difference that could come across as funny to native English speakers and possibly put the business in an unfavourable light.

Translation by an experienced copywriter or professional translator ensures a higher level of accuracy and contextual understanding. Professional translators have the cultural knowledge and language skills required to both capture the subtleties of a text and deliver more accurate and natural-sounding translations.
